Non era certo una novità il fatto che i Camera Obscura avrebbero fatto uscire il loro quinto disco in questo 2013, visto il loro raccontare la trasferta a Portland (luogo di registrazione) passo passo sui vari social lo scorso dicembre. Mancava solo sapere, dettaglio non da poco, la data esatta di rilascio e il titolo del disco, annunciati invece ieri in pompa magna. "Desire Lines vedrà la luce il 3 giugno sempre sotto la storica 4AD a quattro anni da My Maudlin Career". Ciò che invece può sorprendere è il fatto che che gli scozzesi abbiano abbandonato il produttore storico Jari Haapalainen (Club 8, Concretes etcetc.) in favore del più acclamato Tucker Martine (R.E.M., Spoon, My Morning Jacket), ma Tracyanne e compagni ne hanno comunque speso ottime parole:
"Of all our records this was pretty much the most challenging to write, partly because of the situation we found ourselves in with having to take such a long and uncertain amount of time out, but also because it would be record number five and we were getting harder and harder to please. Working in the US with southern gentleman Tucker Martine was a positive experience. He brought a certain calmness to recording that wasn’t there before. We were also delighted to have Neko Case and Jim James sing on the record too. What a treat."
L'altro ieri invece i Camera Obscura si sono esibiti per la prima volta live dopo due anni al Centre for Contemporary Arts di Glasgow (special guest Eugene Kelly dei Vaselines) ed hanno eseguito tre nuovi pezzi che andranno di certo a formare la tracklist di "Desire Lines": "Break It To You Gently", "Every Weekday" e "Do It Again". Purtroppo sono stati registrati solo i primi due, ma del terzo possiamo dirvi da fonti ufficiali (i presenti) che si muoveva su coordinate "poppy" come il primo pezzo.
