Gli anni 80 sono il decennio dell'eterno ritorno. Dal revival post-Duemila a tutte le influenze disseminate nelle produzioni recenti, il decennio in technicolor continua a restare un punto fermo. Se ne è ricordata anche la rivista statunitense Pitchfork, che ha rilanciato la sua classifica di quelli che ritieni i 200 brani migliori degli Eighties, sottolineando nella introduzione: "Gran parte della musica odierna trae ispirazione dagli anni 80, ma esistono tantissime idee diverse su cosa possa significare il termine 'anni 80'. Torniamo qui al materiale di partenza".
Una classifica molto variegata - e, al solito, discutibile - che potrà comunque offrire spunti interessanti per ripescaggi e riscoperte da uno dei decenni più ricchi della storia del pop-rock.

Degli Eighties, si è occupata di recente anche un'altra importante rivista internazionale, Uncut, ponendosi un ambizioso obiettivo: selezionare i 500 migliori album del decennio. Sul sito del magazine, la lista viene presentata con un’introduzione sugli anni 80 in cui, oltre all’impatto mediatico della trasmissione-cult “Top of the Pops” viene anche sottolineata la coesistenza di più anime del decennio: quella di derivazione punk emersa dalla fine del decennio precedente, con tanto di evoluzione wave e gothic, quella più futurista del synth-pop, stemperatasi poi nelle nuove fogge del “new pop”, ma anche quella dichiaramente anti-mainstream di band antesignane dell’indie-rock.
