Addio a Stephen Sondheim, che ha cambiato per sempre il musical

È morto ieri a novantun anni il compositore statunitense Stephen Sondheim, uno dei massimi protagonisti della storia del musical a livello mondiale.

Sue musiche e testi per “A Little Night Music” (1973), “Sweeney Todd” (1979), “Into The Woods” (1986), nonché i testi per “West Side Story” di Leonard Bernstein. È ricordato soprattutto per avere portato a Broadway venature cupe e introspettive nei temi e nel modo di affrontarli, per la frequente stratificazione polifonica e il ricorso alla dissonanza.

Si sono moltiplicate nelle ultime ore le commemorazioni sui social da parte di artisti di primo piano del mondo della musica e dello spettacolo. Lo ricordano, fra gli altri, Idina Menzel e i Magnetic Fields, Carole King e la New York Philarmonic.
