Anche gli U2 nel disco-tributo a Shane MacGowan. Ascolta “A Rainy Night In Soho” di Bruce Springsteen

Dopo la cover di “A Rainy Night In Soho” firmata da Bruce Springsteen e il duetto tra Johnny Depp e Imelda May su “Haunted”, emergono nuovi dettagli su “20th Century Paddy – The Songs Of Shane MacGowan”, l’album tributo dedicato al leader dei Pogues in uscita il 13 novembre.
Tra le novità più rilevanti c’è l’ingresso degli U2 nella tracklist, con una versione di “Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah”, singolo pubblicato dai Pogues nel 1988. Il gruppo di Dublino si aggiunge così ai nomi già annunciati, tra cui Dropkick Murphys, Glen Hansard, Hozier, Primal Scream e Tom Waits.
È stata inoltre diffusa la tracklist completa del progetto: 36 brani che attraversano tutto il repertorio scritto da Shane MacGowan. Per gli U2, la pubblicazione della cover arriverà a ridosso del nuovo album in studio della band, atteso tra la fine di settembre e l’inizio di ottobre.

Il titolo del disco riprende un progetto che MacGowan aveva a lungo desiderato realizzare personalmente. Come spiegano le note ufficiali, “20th Century Paddy” era infatti un titolo a cui il musicista teneva particolarmente. L’album, curato da Victoria Mary Clarke, moglie di MacGowan, includerà anche un libro di 56 pagine con memorabilia e note di copertina.

Parlando della sua interpretazione di “A Rainy Night In Soho”, Springsteen ha dichiarato: “Ogni tanto arriva un artista la cui voce sembra parlare direttamente alla storia stessa. La voce di Shane era profondamente reale, profana e onesta; la sua scrittura luminosa, viva e carica di memoria, al punto che la sua origine sembrava un mistero per chiunque, compreso, credo, lui stesso”.
