Mercury Rev: nuova ristampa di “All Is Dream” in arrivo il 29 novembre

Formatisi nel 1989, i Mercury Rev sono diventati velocemente una band-chiave dell’alternative rock. “All Is Dream“, il successore della loro pietra miliare “Deserter’s Songs“, venne pubblicato dalla V2 nell’agosto del 2001 e apprezzato sia dalla critica sia dal pubblico (ottenendo posizioni in classifica più alte rispetto al disco precedente: #11 nel Regno Unito, #17 negli States, Top 40 in Australia). Tre i singoli estratti: “Nite and Fog”, “The Dark Is Rising” (#16 UK) e “Little Rhymes”.

Il 29 novembre 2019 Cherry Red Records ripubblicherà “All is Dream” in un’edizione deluxe contenente ben quattro CD. Il contenuto extra è stato selezionato con la piena collaborazione e approvazione di Jonathan Donaghue e Sean ‘Grasshopper’ Mackowiak; i due hanno inoltre contribuito alle nuove sleevenotes con Keith Cameron di Mojo. L’ampio libretto conterrà anche fotografie e i testi delle canzoni dell’album.

Oltre alla riproposizione del disco originale, il box conterrà un secondo CD con un assortimento di venti b-side, John Peel sessions, outtakes e demo (molti dei quali mai pubblicati prima) e un terzo con registrazioni live (anche queste inedite) dalle loro esibizioni a Dublino, Dallas, Detroit, Oslo, Monaco, Copenhagen, Ghent, Lille, Clemont-Ferrand e Milano del 2001 e 2002. Il quarto CD, infine, includerà per intero le Black Sessions registrate in Francia finora disponibili solo su un CD promozionale non destinato alla vendita. Tra le chicche incluse nella lussuosa reissue (CRCDBOX 86) troviamo interpretazioni di “Streets of Laredo” (Marty Robbins), “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” (The Beatles) e “I Keep a Close Watch” (John Cale) ma anche rari pezzi autografi come “Mascara Tears” e “Silver and Gold”.
