Una lista impegnativa: quella delle 200 migliori canzoni degli anni 70. Se ne è occupata la testata online Ultimate Classic Rock, ricordando come si tratti di un decennio in cui "il rock classico ha raggiunto la sua piena maturità. Band come Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd e Santana – tutte in ascesa verso la fine degli anni 60 – stavano costruendo le fondamenta della loro leggenda duratura in questo nuovo decennio. Ma non c’erano solo volti noti della prima era del rock classico. Esponenti della nuova generazione, come Aerosmith, Kiss, Steely Dan e Tom Petty, ampliarono il raggio d’azione della musica in modi distinti. Lynyrd Skynyrd e gli Allman Brothers Band stabilirono una nuova estetica del Sud, mentre Eagles e Fleetwood Mac divennero simboli delle promesse – e dei rischi – della West Coast. Poi, verso la fine del decennio, la musica si fece più eccitante e tagliente, incarnata da band come The Clash, The Police, Ramones e Sex Pistols".
