Il più grande tributo ai Grateful Dead? Ci pensano i National in “Day of the Dead”

Un tributo ai Grateful Dead con scopi benefici: a organizzarlo sono nientemeno che i National. La formazione newyorkese si è fatta carico di organizzare una delle più vaste raccolte in tributo alla band che occupò le scene della Summer of Love: “Day of the Dead” il nome del progetto che contiene ben 59 cover dei Grateful Dead ad opera di alcuni dei più noti nomi dell’indie statunitense. Il tutto per portare fondi alla Red Hot, orgnizzazione no-profit fondata da John Carlin che da oltre quindici anni si batte per la ricerca e la sensibilizzazione verso l’AIDS. La raccolta includerà tre cd, rispettivamente chiamati “Thunder”, “Lightning” e “Sunshine”, e sarà in vendita dal 20 di maggio sul sito 4AD. I partecipanti al tribute album sono artisti del calibro di Wilco, Flaming Lips, War on Drugs, TV on the Radio, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Real Estate e molti altri. Un Bill Callahan entusiasta del progetto ha raccontato la sua visione dei Grateful Dead: “Ho la sensazione che i Grateful Dead abbiano mostrato il ponte tra il passato e il futuro in maniera rispettosa. Lo hanno fatto molto più di altri come i Rolling Stones che io sento come dei razziatori. I Grateful Dead hanno respirato vita nelle vecchie canzoni, hanno espanso i polmoni delle vecchie canzoni".
