I 500 migliori album degli anni 90 secondo la rivista Uncut

Nel suo ultimo numero, la rivista britannica Uncut si è posta un ambizioso obiettivo: selezionare i 500 migliori album degli anni 90. Sul sito del magazine, la lista viene presentata con un’introduzione sul decennio, a partire dalla considerazione che il 1991, secondo il titolo di un documentario sui Sonic Youth, fu “The Year Punk Broke”, ovvero l’anno in cui il punk – inteso come musica di rottura, alienazione e catarsi – ottenne finalmente un successo commerciale. In verità – sottolinea Uncut – “se capitoli emozionanti su questo versante furono realizzati da band alternative come Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Mudhoney e Babes In Toyland e altre presenti nel documentario di Dave Markey, la maggior parte del vero successo è stata ottenuta dal grunge dei Nirvana“. La rivista sottolinea anche la portata del fenomeno britpop, altro genere dominante del decennio: “Se nel decennio precedente il successo avrebbe potuto significare la fugace apparizione degli Smiths o degli Happy Mondays su Top Of The Pops, ora i Blur e gli Oasis stavano letteralmente conquistando la vetta delle classifiche”, anche se forse “le sofferenze paranoiche del trip-hop di Portishead, Tricky e Massive Attack indossavano i veri colori del decennio in modo più audace”. A commentare la classifica del decennio, è stato chiamato anche Bobby Gillespie, leader dei Primal Scream e testimone di alcune delle sonorità più cool dei 90’s.
