Il 1978 è stato un anno di grandi trasformazioni per il rock, con l'onda lunga della rivoluzione punk che già cominciava a tramutarsi nelle prime avvisaglie della stagione post-punk e new wave. Un'evoluzione incarnata dal numero 1 di questa nuova classifica del magazine Radio X dedicata proprio ai migliori brani indie rock di quell'anno ("Shot By Both Sides" dei seminali Magazine).
