I 50 migliori dischi del 1975 nella classifica di Paste. Il confronto con quelle di Rolling Stone e UCR

Capolavori da mezzo secolo. Sono tanti gli album storici che, nel corso di questo 2025, compiranno 50 anni. Così la redazione di Paste magazine ha cercato di selezionare quelli che ritiene i migliori 50 dischi pubblicati nel 1975. Un anno nel quale – scrive Matt Mitchell nella introduzione – sono accaduti moltissimi eventi culturali significativi: Stevie Wonder ha vinto il suo primo Grammy per l’Album dell’anno, i Talking Heads hanno suonato il loro primo concerto al CBGB, Gregg Allman e Cher si sono sposati, Simon & Garfunkel si sono riuniti al Saturday Night Live, e gli Who hanno battuto il record di presenze a un concerto al chiuso. Ma sono usciti anche album straordinari”.

Analogo tentativo aveva compiuto qualche settimana fa la rivista americana Rolling Stone, riavvolgendo anch’essa il nastro del tempo di mezzo secolo e andando a ripescare quelli che ritiene i migliori album usciti nel 1975. Settantacinque, per la precisione, proprio come l’anno. “L’America era un posto tremendamente strano nel 1975 – ricorda il magazine nell’introduzione – ma la cosa più strana di tutte era la musica. L’intera cultura stava cambiando rapidamente. Fu l’anno in cui ‘Lo squalo’ inventò il blockbuster hollywoodiano. ‘Saturday Night Live’ rivoluzionò la comicità televisiva. Muhammad Ali sconfisse Joe Frazier nel leggendario ‘Thrilla in Manila’. E finì la guerra del Vietnam”. Al cinema – aggiunge Rolling Stone – potevi andare a vedere ‘Quel pomeriggio di un giorno da cani’, ‘Nashville’ o ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’. E tutti sulla pista da ballo facevano ‘The Hustle’. Ma fu un anno di svolte anche nel rock. “Arrivarono classici senza tempo da leggende come Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan e Neil Young – ricorda ancora la rivista statunitense – Funk, disco, punk, reggae e metal stavano emergendo…”.

Ecco quindi questa selezione, in cui si potrà incontrare “prog, dub, afrobeat, kraut-rock, soul, pop trash, jazz, honky-tonk, psichedelia brasiliana e KC and the Sunshine Band”. Perché – conclude Rolling Stone – “come si dice in The Rocky Horror Picture Show: ‘Facciamolo di nuovo, il salto nel tempo’”.

Infine, anche la redazione di Ultimate Classic Rock ha cercato di selezionare quelli che ritiene i migliori 30 dischi pubblicati nel 1975, quando “la polvere degli anni 60 si era ormai pienamente sedimentata e gli anni 70 erano nel pieno del loro svolgimento”, come scrive il magazine presentando la classifica. “A metà decennio, i generi musicali avevano trovato il loro spazio: pop, country-rock, soft rock, hard rock, cantautori, country e soul avevano tutti conquistato un posto nelle programmazioni radiofoniche… – sottolinea ancora Ultimate Classic Rock nell’introduzione – Mentre gli artisti della decade precedente continuavano a pubblicare lavori eccellenti – le uscite del 1975 di Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd e Neil Young erano essenziali tanto quanto i loro dischi precedenti – nuove voci iniziarono a farsi sentire: Aerosmith, Queen e Bruce Springsteen pubblicarono album fondamentali proprio in quell’anno… Le opere divennero più definite, più personali e più consapevoli del loro posto nella storia. La musica popolare era maturata negli ultimi dieci anni e, nel 1975, non sentiva più il bisogno di dover dimostrare qualcosa”.
