I 200 migliori dischi del post-punk dark e gotico di sempre nella classifica di Uncut: The Cure in vetta

Trionfano i Cure di “Disintegration” nella speciale classifica darkwave e gothic compilata dallo staff del magazine britannico Uncut nel nuovo numero speciale della serie The Ultimate Record Collection. All’interno della rivista, sono presenti anche interviste, recensioni e approfondimenti sul tema. Il piatto forte, però, è questa classifica intitolata “The 200 greatest goth albums… ranked!”.

L’iniziativa è presentata in un’introduzione a cura del direttore John Robinson, che, partendo dalla recente polemica tra Paul Weller e Robert Smith dei Cure, sottolinea come possa aver dato fastidio “il fatto che la band di Smith riesca ancora oggi a riempire gli stadi di tutto il mondo con una musica fortemente personale ma, allo stesso tempo, sorprendentemente universale… Essendo i Cure autori di alcuni dei dischi più amati e di successo della sottocultura goth, non potevano certo mancare – aggiunge Robinson – Troverete anche altri classici di giganti del genere come Nick Cave e Siouxsie And The Banshees. Ma ciò che questa raccolta offre, oltre ai nomi più celebri, è un ampio panorama di musica che ha contribuito a definire la prima fase di questa corrente, in un periodo che potremmo collocare tra il 1981 e il 1989: dall’ascesa dei Birthday Party fino all’uscita di “Disintegration“… Secondo una visione più rigida e ortodossa, il primo album dei Cocteau Twins o ‘She Hangs Brightly’ dei Mazzy Star potrebbero essere collocati più appropriatamente sotto l’etichetta dream-pop piuttosto che goth. Oppure, le sinistre sperimentazioni elettroniche del primo album dei Throbbing Gristle avrebbero potuto trovare spazio in queste pagine accanto a Skinny Puppy o Nine Inch Nails – spiega ancora il direttore del magazine nell’introduzione – Forse è vero, ma siamo molto sicuri della musica inclusa in questa selezione”.
